Pickit 2 (clone) lite   DYI

 
For any one that is looking for slightly smaller  PCB  3.1"x2.5"   (79x64mm) then this is the option  for you. It is compatible with all of the PIC controllers as the full version minus EEPROM and target voltage detection. 

If you are looking for Programmer-to-Go feature you will need full version of the board which is slightly bigger or PICkit-3 version

Software
The programmer will need to have firmware programmed into the PIC18F2550 before you can do any thing with it. Unfortunately its catch 22 as you will need a programmer of sort to get the controller programmed first.
